But you can’t keep me away from politics and campaigning too long. As soon as the summer hit I headed down to the ol’ south in Richmond and cast my vote for Governor McDonnell, Ken Cuncinelli and Bill Bolling. The speeches highlighted my fiscal and political views and once they won the votes and GOP support I was back on top with HOPE for a new Governor of Virginia.

I remember meeting Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen at a meet and great this summer in Old Town, Alexandria. He is from that area and they were down to earth. Maureen spoke about their long marriage, military service, hope for a fiscally sound VA, jobs and a great transportation plan (which is key in NOVA). I knew from then on I would talk to locals about voting for Bob. I even persuaded democratic friends who posted yard signs for him and talked some Independent friends into voting for him.

I credit the W for Bob as Governor of Virginia to the hard work of loyal grass roots activists and a good campaign team. I also know that the Obama administration is losing likability with their “hope” and trust that seems to be dwindling away and that helped us too. But I do not give them all the credit.

Standing at the Victory party in NOVA at Pat Troy’s pub was a great night. The votes came in fast and the GOP was ahead in high margins. We need to keep this up and as liberal as the Northern Virginias are I see the ray of hope and plan on rolling up my sleeves and putting in more hard work to keep the ball rolling.

I will be attending the Advance in Williamsburg the weekend of December 4th, where the New Media Committee I am on will sit down with GOP leaders of VA and strategize more ways to win and have our message be heard. After the pain stricken loss of last fall, my wounds are starting to heal after seeing the VA GOP get it together and use the internet as tool. My word to the liberals out there…BEWARE…this is just the beginning!

There are many Young, Modern and Technologically Savvy Republicans out there! And we are growing, especially after the more months pass by of Obama’s reign.

To attend the VA GOP advance go to http://www.rpv.org/events/detail/2009-republican-advance

Young Women’s National Conference: You Can Be the Positive Change!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 135px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r06K8tLJQ3o/SmifSgBJ_CI/AAAAAAAAAQc/Mg8jtWCkrZ8/s320/web+logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361710496565820450" />
Did you know that research shows that by the age of 13, 53% of American girls are unhappy about their bodies and that by age 17, 78% are dissatisfied? These statics are disturbing the Media is portraying very powerful and sometimes subconscious messages that we are given as women about how we should look and who we should be in our culture.

Well, I am blowing the whistle on the Media and all the misguided women who try and tell us who we are! During my professional travels I have met with many old school friends who live all over the world and have very successful lives. I also learned that we can still sit down and give detailed stories from their past that had brought down their self esteem, from eating lunch in the bathroom when the “popular” kids did not save you a seat at lunch, being laughed at on body issues when your growing into a women, to having one girl turn a whole group of friends on you based on gossip and lies.

Well I am here to tell you, that at the time it did hurt when you were in those situations and I am not going to lie and say it didn’t hurt if you ignored it. But listen Young Ladies, you will get past it and there is a whole world to conquer out there that goes WAY beyond the politics of High School.

I am here as an example and I have so much compassion for young women whose self esteem suffers from the Media, friends and life. I have to do something about it and I am, please support or attend the first ever National Young Women’s Conference, October 24th in Washington DC.

I have surveyed over 100 young women and the conference will focus on their 7 top topics from improving self esteem to peer pressure. The goal is to have each girl walk away with the tools to combat these issues and be inspired by the women speakers who have been through the same experiences. This will end with a mentor reception where young girls can connect with these women and build a relationship that goes far beyond this one day conference.

The Young Women National Conference (www.ywnc.net) will truly change the lives of 200 young women. In order to do this I need your help. I would like the cost of registration to be under $30 per person, and I need to raise the money to pay for the meals and logistics of the program. Please let me know if you, your company or your friends company may be interested in becoming a sponsor.

Also you too as an individual can help by donating the $25 fee for a young woman to attend, just go to the home page and click on donate now through Pay Pal, every little bit will help! This is your opportunity to make a difference in a young girl’s life.

More information is at www.ywnc.net

Thanks,

Erica I. Chuck Grassley says that President Barack Obama "got nerve" to go sightseeing in Paris while telling lawmakers it's time to deliver on a health care overhaul.

Amen to that and I had the pleasure of attending an intimate breakfast with Senator Grassley this morning at the Capitol Hill Club, Washington, DC. There were about 30 people sitting down board room style for a one hour Q&A; of course the highlight was the healthcare reform topic. The takeaways I took away from listeing are the following:

• This cannot be done overnight like the President and his cronies would like.
• This needs to be a bipartisan bill.
• If the monetary amount can’t cover all 50 million citizens who need healthcare, which it can’t then it is doomed to fail
• If Pelosi get’s her way we will have a SOCIALIST HEALTH REFORM in the next
few years!
• It does not matter if individuals can keep their own insurance because if 130 million Americans are on the government’s healthcare then it will be hard for those to keep their personal plans.

Overall Grassley was a down to earth man, not an elitist like others I have been in the presence of. He tweets and I just started following him, he has an important role with Senator Bauaus and I want to follow what is going to happen on the July 13th hearings.

My top 3 topics are Security, Taxes and Environment have gone to the side right now as I fear about what can happen to America with these Health Care changes that are being shoved down our throat.

What do you think?

Letter to the Women's Media Center -- some things never change

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r06K8tLJQ3o/SjpvhKLp7yI/AAAAAAAAAOg/KCeoEeEedxE/s200/jane.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348710122915491618" />
The ladies in my life are so important and intelligent, I just had to post this blog by my friend and mentor Jane Bonvillain.

Thanks, Erica

I first posted this note on February 11, 2009 and it is seems relevant to RE-POST this again tonight after watching O'Reilly's segment. This was actually a letter I sent to the Women's Media Center the same evening. Re-posting for your reading pleasure.

My name is Jane Bonvillain. Call me a feminist. ….. a conservative feminist. Just several days before this nonsense with Bill O’Reilly, I was watching the daily White House press conference at which Madame Helen Thomas posed a question to Press Secretary Gibbs asking if the President “believes in the separation of Church & State….?” To which Mssr. Gibbs responded “yes, he does.” Then, the esteemed and aged Ms. Thomas pressed on asking why, then, does the President not close the Office of Faith Based Initiatives?

Legitimate question…..perhaps. However, it came on the day that President Obama spoke at the Prayer Breakfast, and it just seemed to me to be a trivial and a “gotcha” question in a time when this country is dealing with some very, very serious problems.

I was so irritated by her demeanor and question that I proceeded to post to my Facebook status, that I thought “…..Helen Thomas is a troll and should lay off the booze.” (The latter part of that phrase is personal knowledge.)

And, I still stand by comment. Was it meant in jest, allbeit, with a hint of truthfulness? Absolutely.

You all, at the Womens Media Center, have absolutely NO credibility with me, and I dare say, millions of women LIKE ME, who are feminists in our own right but happen to have varying viewpoints of the world and on issues, and can actually not take ourselves TOO seriously.

Where were you all when Sarah Palin, as well as her daughter, were being ripped apart, mocked, and ridiculed, during the election because of their looks, style, circumstances and cadence?

Aaahhh ..... the silence is deafening.

Believe me, there are many more of ME out here than there are of you. The only reason you all get the air time, print, etc., is because the rest of us women – the SILENT MAJORITY – are too busying raising our families, working, volunteering in our kids’ schools, juggling home and work, and running the kids around to their activities.

So, keep up the good work and keep exposing yourselves for the hypocrites you are and next time, try taking on a truly worthwhile issue.

Respectfully,

Jane Bonvillain
Summerville, SC

Job Leads in DC (JLDC)

More leads I recieved this week. I would like everyone to know that gossip on the demise of the Republican Party has been significantly exaggerated. In fact, I have never seen more people as passionate about politics as I saw on May 30th.

Some more news for those of you who think that the GOP is just a bunch of rich white folks… you are mistaken. I witnessed firsthand the diversity of the party. Whether it was the delegates, guests or the speakers, the crowd included people of all races and genders as well as all income levels. The common thread, a belief that the return to traditional Republican values and ideas would make the country better. Nearly every speaker throughout the weekend hit on the traditional ideas of lower taxes, controlling government spending and lessening the control that government has on the economy. And those are the main reasons that I am a GOP woman today, also I am in my 20’s and half Hispanic so take that “white and rich” stereotype!

The biggest reason for my enthusiasm was that the nominee for Governor Bob McDonnell is the candidate to lead the Republican Party away from the recent big spending of the Northeastern Republicans and back to the more fiscally responsible Reagan Republicans! Join his campaign and hear what he said at the convention on youtube

The downside was, there were no females on the ballot and this just crushes me. Come on GOP women I know you’re out there, please run for anything, city, state, national! We will support you, and I am looking into running as well! If you do run, please let me know. I can get you endorsed by the Women Under Forty PAC in Washington, DC.

A ray of light for me was that I went to a blogging reception and met some people who are on the newly formed NEW MEDIA committee of the VA republicans. Woohoo, they get it! We lost elections from being offline and a lack of slogans. But YES WE CAN:
Can we be in the Media, YES WE CAN
Can we blog, YES WE CAN
Can we put up YouTube videos to catch Generation Y, YES WE CAN
Can we overcome Stereotypes, YES WE CAN

I am so happy to know the GOP in VA is on board with internet, twitter, Face book and you tube. I love that Kay Cole James the Secretary of Health and Human Resources at Virginia State Government invited everyone to add her on Facebook. I did from the convention floor and we were friends and exchanged emails by that evening!!!

Remember fellow Virginias, “Vote for Change” this fall and take our money back,

Erica I. It was at President James Monroe’s house which is now the Arts Club(http://www.artsclubofwashington.org/) of DC. The Balkan Quartet performed a repertoire of traditional Balkan music from Serbia. This is just the first FREE event for the next couple of weeks in DC. It was nice to be in a small crowd in a historic place and listen to music that makes you feel like you’re in Serbia. The new Serbian Ambassador Vladimir Petrovic hosted a small reception afterwards and it was nice to have some Serbian wine and ask him how he like’s DC.

This is why I love DC and just when you think that you have done it all, I find a booklet for the Passport for DC events. I have outlined what embassies that I want to visit tomorrow out of the 33, the ones with music and food have me interested and the Embassy of Iraq that is my first on the list.

So the economy has most cutting back on travel, may I suggest you strap on your walking shoes, grab a water bottle and head out the Embassy open house tomorrow from 10 am to 4 pm. People say American’s do not like to learn about other cultures but I beg to differ, let’s prove them wrong and go add value to your life.

I am so happy to be inspired to blog about something different then the government!

Is Stealing Legal Once it’s been passed by the Government?

If you had a farm and one day a stranger came over and told you he was taking almost half of your land, cattle and equipment for him and friends to use any way they want, wouldn’t you consider that stealing? I consider that STEALING and what makes the difference if the Government makes it legal for them to take up to almost 40% of your income and use it on programs and bailouts of their choosing. Nothing, there isn’t any difference.
I get it, you have to pay taxes for the government to run properly but when they start to spend excessively and take more than their fair share how can we sit back blind folded with our arms tied behind our backs and take this from these modern day thieves! Not me, I am the one who is going to shimmy off my blind fold, tip over my chair and unbind the rope around my hands. I cannot take it anymore and though I did not make it to the DC Treasury for the Tax Day Tea Party (http://www.taxdayteaparty.com/ ) I am going to do my part by blogging and passing around articles on Face Book.

I work for myself and when I see how many tax dollars I pay out of my pocket this year and how it will rise next year it makes me want to stop working. That would NEVER happen because hard work is what makes me who I am. I just do not like to think that 30 to 40% of my time as the governments. But it is tempting to become a sloth and just put my hand out like so many others.
What do you think?
(My next blog will not be about money or the government, I swear)

Article I suggest: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/04/09/modern-tea-parties-chance-to-scream/

AIG stands for American’s In Greed!

I don’t understand why my jaw dropped when I heard about the AIG bonuses. I really thought that this bailout nonsense couldn’t shock me anymore. But alas my jaw dropped and I had to scoop it up off the floor. Now if there is a time to become bi-partisan then it is now because I think most Americans can agree that they are disgusted with this use of our tax dollars, even though 92 votes on the house were cast NOT to tax PIG, I mean AIG a 90% retroactive fee on their bonuses.

Starting a blog this month was brilliant because with the news hitting the stands hard it causes my fingers to type even harder on the keyboard and strangely I find it a welcomed stress reliever. I have been against any type of government bailouts because I think the people who made the GREEDY mistakes should take the hard fall. However, here we all are united tax payers shouldering Wall Streets burden. More government means less control us citizens have and it makes me want to scream in Spanish!

AIG can go back to their full out name American International Group as their PR team suggests but they will never fool me. I would not be surprised if certain leaders of this country didn’t get a kickback ($$$) from the AIG bonuses. If I could be the detective to track down where all the Bailout money went then I would be in paradise.

All I can say is that I work for myself and I always have a contract with client and I have never signed a contract that I did not read from beginning to end or understand. So how can all our tax dollars are given so freely to these banks and then our government claims ignorance? Maybe I should work for the government reading contracts; God knows that is where all the jobs are going to be now with all the Stimulus packages coming our way. Soon us tax payers will have to pay taxes up to 39% or higher subsequently that is not my idea of the “HOPE” everyone preached last year!!!!

Yours Truly,

Erica Parkhurst
President
Parkhurst Premier Events, Inc.
www.parkhurstpremier.com

The only "Change" I see is the Change in my Budget!

Ok I get it, when you become a President who promotes CHANGE you come into office and make drastic changes. But rather then proving a point at the US citizens expense, I plead with you Mr. Obama slow down and look at the future reactions to our economy. Obviously his CHANGE phenomenon does not include looking into the FUTURE. Do not get me wrong I know the Bush Administration did not leave the White House on a high note; it actually left most of us with a bad taste in our mouth.

What chaps my hide is my whole life I have lived well within or below my means and now I will be paying up to 39% of my paycheck to help out others who lived above their means!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was taught my whole life to first tithe 10% and then save as much as I can. This means I choose to spend my money in certain ways. I shop at outlets and thrift stores, buy off-brand groceries, go to matinees, rent library books, only buy things on sale, maintain side jobs for extra cash, pack a lunch and buy used cars. If I would have know that I could have been a Materialistic Obsessed American (MOA) and bought 5k Gucci purses, Prada stilettos, Luxury Cars and a house I cannot afford just to have a "Savior" come in bail me out then maybe my life would be different. Oh wait, I would never be obsessed with stuff I can’t take with me. Sadly enough life is not like “The Girls Next Door” reality show that claims to be reality fooling my generation of Women that these 3 blondes have it all, well all I can say is OY VE!

As a Matter of Fact! (cited: Americans for Prosperity)

When you fight, the politicians get awfully nervous – even on a bill the President, Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid assumed was an easy victory.
While Americans are losing jobs and seeing life savings evaporate this Obama/Pelosi/Reid $410 billion

Omnibus funds earmarks like:
$2.1 million for a Center for Grape Research in NY
$1.7 million for pig odor research in Iowa
$951,500 for Sustainable Las Vegas (I'm not making this up)
$2 million for "the promotion of astronomy" in Hawaii
$200,000 for a tattoo removal program

President Obama, after campaigning on a pledge to veto earmarks, now says $7.7 billion for 8,500 earmarks is ok with him. Sadly, the President cares more about letting his friends in Congress stuff pet projects into an already massive spending bill than keeping his promise to protect the American people from earmarks abuse and waste.

Are you angry that the Administration and some in Congress rolling up deficits that will destroy us? Everything you have worked for is in jeopardy. The worth of your 401K has been cut in half.
The inflation that will follow these huge deficits will devalue the dollars you have left. The stock market has plunged 50%.

Between 1 January and 11 October 2008, owners of stocks in U.S. corporations had suffered about $8 trillion in losses as their holdings declined in value from $20 trillion to $12 trillion.

Household debt grew to $14.5 trillion in midyear 2008, 134% of disposable personal income.[45]
Housing prices continue falling. Last week I attended a RightNOW (www.politicalchicks.com) breakfast on the hill and Mindy Finn (Director of eStrategy, Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign) encouraged us young conservative and modern women to blog to give our opinion a voice. So that is what I decided to do, I cannot sit back and complain that the media does not show us younger conservative women when I am not doing my part.

I was bitten by the political bug when I interned for Congressman Dave Camp of Michigan’s 4th district. I saw that the everyday citizens who came into the office or cared enough to write a letter made a difference. Their ideas and problems were heard and usually solved. So I moved to DC thinking I could change the world. Well I quickly ran into a brick wall of reality but it made me realize I cannot do it alone. So I joined the National Young Republicans and Women Under Forty Political Action Committee ((www.wufpac.org), WeLead (http://wandp.american.edu/pages.php?ID=24) at American University and RightNOW. I am involved in groups that when we do come together we do make a lasting impact.

I love leadership conferences that inspire young people and God knows I have worked enough of them thank you to Congressional Youth Leadership Council (www.cylc.org). I will end my first blog with a quote and I want to you visualize this quote to hear my message.

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope... and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. - Robert F Kennedy

Best, Erica I.
